About

The official Big Band of Imperial College London.

The renowned IC Big Band stands as the pre-eminent jazz ensemble of Imperial College London.

Featuring a diverse group of scientists, engineers and medics, ICBB showcases the depth of talent within the community, delivering a dynamic repertoire spanning from classic swing to contemporary funk and fusion.

Since its founding in 2010, the band has gained a reputation for musical excellence, winning platinum at the National Concert Band Festival in 2017, and performing at venues such as the PizzaExpress Jazz Club SoHo and the Bull’s Head.

In addition, IC Big Band has garnered international acclaim, performing recently in Berlin and Madrid, as well as receiving invitations from the Montreaux International Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival.

The ensemble is directed under the helm of Chris Dean, the current director of the esteemed Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and a seasoned musician in his own right, having recorded with music icons like Frank Sinatra and Quincy Jones.

ICBB has since collaborated with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in a sell-out double big band concert, as well as the Oxford University Jazz Orchestra and Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra.
